LEGAL UPDATE: Did you know that the Ministry of Industry & Trade has issued a new circular to confirm that foreign companies engaging in the the 11 service sectors (such as legal, advertising, banking & finance, securities, construction, etc.) to which VN has made commitments under the WTO will no longer need to obtain work permits for expats they move to VN internally to work provided that a number of conditions are met such as the relevant employee has worked offshore for the company for at least 12 months before coming to Vietnam.
However, the company has to obtain a certificate to confirm that no work permit is required and the circular sets out procedures for doing so! Thus, it is unclear whether this will be just as cumbersome as getting one or not.
